France is the fourth largest table grape producer among the EU countries just behind Italy, Spain and Greece. France produces around 50 000  to 60 000 MT of table grapes a year while Spain produces around 250 000  MT and Italy around 1 300 000 MT. France is also the fourth largest table grape importer just behind Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom.

 

France imported 123 284 MT of table grapes in 2002. Ten years later ( in 2011 ) the French table grape imports reached 149 601 MT. During the last ten years the French table grape imports grew up by 21 per cent with a peak import season (2008) with 155 102 MT of table grape imports.

 

In January 2012 France imported a total of 5 602 MT of table grapes, mostly from spain (2 928 MT), Italy (868 MT), South Africa ( 717 MT) and Peru (649 MT).

 

From January to the 1st of June 2012 France imported 17 972 MT of table grapes, mostly from South Africa, Chile, Spain, Peru and Italy.

 

The 2012 French table grape imports reached  28 778 MT by the 1st of August 2012. From January to August 2012 France imported the table grapes mostly from Italy (6 259 MT), South Africa ( 5 494 MT), Spain (4 664 MT), Chile (4 430 MT), Morocco (2 875 MT) and Peru (1 344 MT).

 

From January to the 1st of August 2012, France exported 7 280 MT of table grapes.

 

The French table imports reached 139 931 MT during the 2013 season. During this season , France imported the table grapes mostly from Italy ( 102 783 MT ), Spain ( 9 199MT ), Chile ( 6 968 MT ), South Africa ( 6 439 MT ), Germany ( 3 922 MT ), Morocco ( 2 801 MT ), Peru ( 2 011 MT ) and Brazil ( 1 129 MT ).

 

France imports around 75 per cent of the table grapes from Italy.

 

 

By the 1st of July 2014 ( January to July 2014 ),  France had already imprted 23 619 MT of table grapes, mostly from Chile ( 4 802 MT ), South Africa ( 4 561 MT ), Spain ( 4 226 MT ), Italy ( 3 522 MT ), Morocco ( 1 557 MT ) and Peru ( 1 358 MT ).
