   The top plum producers of our chart above produced a total of 7 577 538 tons of plums and sloes in 2001.

   The same plum and sloe producers reached a total of9 849 058 MT of plums and sloes in 2010 ( + 30 per cent).

 

European Union's plum and ploe production ( plums, mirabelles, quetsches) was 1 570 330 MT in 2000; The production volume reached 1 607 000 MT in 2010 but fell to 1 298 000 in 2011. During the last ten years EU countries's highest plum and ploe harvest took place in 2003 with 1 894 000 MT.

European Union's plum imports moved from 228 880 MT in 2000 to 258 529 MT in 2011 with peak seasons of hgiher imports ( 348 950 MT in 2001, 338 871 MT in 2008  and 311 526 MT in 2002) .
 
European Union's plum exports moved from 166 300 MT in 2000 to 235 081 MT in 2011. During the last ten years European Union's highest plum export year has been the year 2008 ( 265 289 MT).

France imported 14 092 MT of plums in 2000. In 2003, 2004, 2005 and in 2008 the table plum imports reached higher volumes but in 2011 the import volume was only 11 579 MT while, the same year, France exported 19 082 MT of plums.

 

 

By the 1st of June 2012 France had already imported (January to June) 3 333 MT of table plums, mostly from South Africa (1 857 MT), Chile (795 MT) and  Spain (200 MT)    

 
 

By the 1st of August 2012 France imported (January to August) 7 646 MT of table plums, mostly from Spain (3 355 MT),  South Africa (1 912 MT), Chile (795 MT) and Italy (355 MT);

 

By the 1st of September 2012 France imported (January to September )10 016 MT of table plums, mostly from Spain (5 266 MT), South Africa (1 912 MT), Chile (795 MT), Germany (403 MT) and Italy (373 MT)

 

 

Through the whole year 2012 , the largest plum suppliers of France have been Spain ( 9 630 MT ), South Africa ( 1 928 MT) and Italy ( 954 MT).

 

In 2013 the largest plum suppliers of France have been Spain ( 8 047 MT ), South Africa ( 2 564 MT ) and Germany ( 1 858 MT) followed by Chile ( 1 113 MT) and Italy ( 961 MT).

 

During the first five months of 2014 (January till the 1st of June 2014) France imported 2 501 MT of plums while the total of exports reached  462 MT.

 A word from the President

 

The plum production, import and export statistics data indicated in this page concern the production of the major grower countries. All the plum production, export and import data is official and delivered by the French Ministry of Agriculture and the Statistical Division (FAOSTAT) of the Food and Agriculture Division of The United Nations (FAO). China is the world's largest plum producer followed by Romania, United States, Serbia, Chile, France, Turkey and Spain.  Chile is the world's largest plum exporter followed by Spain, United States, South Africa, Italy, Netherlands, France and Argentina.
