   The top 24 apple producers of our chart above produced a total of 49 802 576 tons of apples in 2001.

   The same apple producers reached a total production of 61 436 218 MT of apples in 2010 ( + 23,4 per cent).

 

During the last ten years (2001 - 2010) the European Union's apple production decreased by about fifteen per cent passing from12,5 million tons to 10,5 million tons.

The top 24 apple producers of our chart above produced a total of 67 052 741 tons of apples in 2011 and 68 097 451 MT in 2012. 

 

The top 24 apple producers of our chart above produced a total of 623 599 237 tons of apples from 2001 to the end of 2011.

 

The same apple producer countries produced a total of  691 697 187 MT of apples from 2001 till the end of the year 2012.

 

The production capacity of these countries grew by 37 per cent since 2000 since these apple grower countries produced a total of 49 802 576 MT of apples in 2000 while this amount reached 68 097 950 MT in 2012.

The top 20 apple exporters of our chart above axported a total of 4 902 010 MT of apples in 2000. The same exporter countries reached a total export volume of 7 638 874 MT of apples in 2010 ( + 55 per cent ). The exports of these 20 countries fell to 7 271 834 MT of apple exports. but countries like Turkey ( 29th largest exporter ) and Serbia ( 28th largest exporter) exported higher volumes in 2011. Turkey exported  87 803 MT of apples ( 10 per cent higher than in 2010)  while Serbia exported 130 182 MT ( 20 per cent more than in 2010 ).

France imported 116 511 MT of apples in 2001. In 2010  the French apple imports reached 166 458 MT (+ 42,8 %) while the EU imports for the same period were steady ( 2 595 800 MT in 2001 and 2 585 483 MT in 2010 ). Globally French apple imports have risen by 98 per cent during the past ten years ( 2001 to 2011 ) while the French apple exports decreased by 17,7 per cent during the same period;

 

France has also been the world's largest apple exporter till the year 2004. Starting from 2005 the largest exporters became China and Italy.  France is also among the three biggest EU apple producers.

 

By the 1st of August 2012 France had already imported (January to July) 94 532 MT of apples , mostly from Belgium (18 784 MT), Italy (14 035 MT), Spain (11 586 MT), Netherlands (11 465 MT), Chile (11 112 MT), Brazil (6 208 MT), South Africa (4 134 MT), Chile (5 049 MT) and  Argentina (2 548 MT). By the end of the year 2012 France imported 201 040 MT of apples ( up by 45 per cent compared to 2011).

 

During the year 2012 the EU countries imported a total of 2 670 116 MT of apples from around the world. In 2013 the European apple imports reached a volume of 2 657 009 MT.

 

From January till the 1st of June 2013, France imported a total of  114 449 tons of apples mostly from Belgium ( 19 652 MT ), Italy ( 17 018 MT ), Poland (  16 717 MT ),   Spain ( 11 416 MT ), Chile ( 9 432 MT ), Netherlands ( 9 138 MT ), Germany ( 4 110 MT ), South Africa ( 3 864 MT ), Argentina ( 3 755 MT ) and  Brazil ( 3 495 MT ). By the end of 2013 the French apple imports reached a volume of  248 827 MT while during the same period the country exported a total volume of 525 415 MT of apples. The leading apple suppliers of France have been Spain ( 40 162 MT ), Belgium ( 36 637 MT), Italy ( 28 901 MT ), Poland ( 28 849 MT ), Netherlands (23 682 MT), Chile ( 26 249), South Africa ( 10 528 MT), Brasil ( 7 685 MT), Germany ( 7 143 MT ), Argentina ( 5 923 MT ), and New Zealand ( 5 835 MT)  

 

During the first five months of 2014 ( January till the 1st of June 2014) the French apple imports reached 51 281 MT while the country exported 345 117 MT of apples during the same period.

All apple production, export and import data is official and delivered by the French Ministry of Agriculture and the Statistical Division (FAOSTAT) of the Food and Agriculture Division of The United Nations (FAO).

 

China is the world's largest apple producer followed by U.S.A and Turkey.  China is the also the world's largest apple exporter followed by France , Italy, Chile, U.S.A, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina.
